From My First Trial to Your Case: A Jackson, MS Criminal Defense Perspective

Most lawyers don’t talk about how they actually started.
I will.
At 25 years old, fresh out of law school, I walked into federal court to try my first case with no file, no partner, and no real idea what I was doing. The client? A man who had killed two cops and was now suing the State of Mississippi. That was my introduction to the legal system—the real version, not what you see on TV.
Not long after that, I found myself working inside the Hinds County court system and later at the Hinds County District Attorney’s Office. That’s where I learned how cases are actually handled in Jackson, MS—how decisions get made, how prosecutors think, and where cases are won and lost.
That experience is exactly why I’m launching this new show.
Each week, I’ll break down real cases from Jackson and Hinds County, explain how the criminal justice system actually works, and talk about the mistakes that can cost people everything. I’ll also be taking calls and answering legal questions, because most people don’t get clear answers until they’re already in trouble.
If you’re facing criminal charges in Jackson, Mississippi, or anywhere in Hinds County, understanding the system matters. The right strategy—and the right lawyer—can make all the difference.
This show is about giving you that insight before it’s too late.
If you want to know how things really work in Hinds County courts, or if you need a criminal defense lawyer in Jackson, MS, The Yurtkuran Law Firm is here to help.
